With modest beginnings as a writer of gallery texts for spaces around Amsterdam, Sturt-Scobie has gone on to collaborate with many of Europe’s most prominent artists, curators and institutions (such as MuseumsQuartier in Vienna and Nxt Museum in Amsterdam). Their work seeks what lies beyond objective documentation, exploring how to instill their writing with the living character, texture and atmosphere of the artists and artworks their texts represent.
Through robust collaboratation, Sturt-Scobie teases out from creatives the most salient essences of their practice, creating works that house their urgencies and mark their broader cultural significance - for the public and funding bodies alike. This approach is an outgrowth of both their background as an arts practitioner and graduate of Critical Fine Art Practice (University of Brighton) - leading to a wealthy understanding of that key intersection of art practice, history and political context.
As the name might suggest, Sturt-Scobie’s Haptic Cache is drawn to spaces, artists and artworks that operate at the front lines of debates surrounding the impact of technology on society. This curiosity has led to frequent collaborations with Nxt Museum (home of new media art in the Netherlands) and their curator Bogomir Doringer.
